The Administrative Assistant will assist in all various areas and will complete varied tasks providing support to department leaders.




  • Answer telephone & direct or respond to calls promptly
  • Remain up-to-date and proficient in use of all office equipment
  • Process all necessary paperwork and office related duties in a timely fashion to meet all deadlines
  • Assist the ministry unit in administering records, policies, and procedures
  • Develop, coordinate and support media platforms
  • Create social media posts and create advertising materials and flyers
  • Perform general office duties such as answer and screen telephone calls and direct inquiries and answer inquiries, greet and escort visitors, file documents electronically or manually; photocopy and distribute materials as requested

Health and Safety

  • Report any Health & Safety infractions, issues or concerns to management and worker representative
  • Help to keep fire exits clear and assist in the “Tidy Maintenance” of the building
  • Know the Fire Evacuation plan, locations of Fire extinguishers and first aid stations
  • Report any infractions of Policies & Procedures to the Manager

Perform other duties as required.


  • This is a temporary position based on 35 hours per week
  • This job requires the ability to lift/move 25 lbs. and reach, bend, stand, sit, and use a computer
  • Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required
  • Be available for full 8 weeks of program

Normal hours of work:  the hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements which are Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break where applicable



  • This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
    • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the employment.
    • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and,
    • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
    • *International students are not eligible.  Recent immigrants are eligible if they are a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Completion of Secondary School
  • Standard First Aid and CPR is an asset but not required
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered


  • Some prior related experience including, administrative experience and experience dealing with office equipment and tools


  • Have own computer with reliable internet connection, as file access and meetings may take place online
  • Must have excellent written, verbal and computer skills (this includes but not limited to video editing)
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics
  • Organized, hardworking, dedicated, creative, and possess leadership qualities
  • Able to work well independently and as in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
