HOURS:

  • 38 hours/week, varied schedule, including weekend

Responsibilities

Position Purpose Summary:

The SIL program advisor gives overall leadership for the Supportive Independent Living Program.   The SIL program advisor provides a safe and secure environment for residents/clients, and provides practical support to re-integrate them into the community while they address issues related to substance use and mental health concerns.  The SIL program advisor plans and delivers various programs to meet client’s needs and to support them in continuing their sobriety and finding meaningful employment. 

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates and implements policy and procedure for SIL program; Review and upgrade program specific policies and procedures as needed
  • Manages the SIL program budget, collect the rent, manage the petty cash funds for the program, plan activities/programs accordingly.
  • Continuously evaluates program and initiate process improvements through client surveys and feedback
  • Engages in ongoing planning to ensure programing reflects clients’ needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate.
  • Ensures that programs meet all contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements
  • Attends and actively participates in lead team meetings for the Centre of Hope
  • Monitor recovery of residents by urine drug screens, individual room checks, access reports and staff reporting. Monitors/ensures compliance of Program Participants to expectations of program requirements.
  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports.
  • Maintains confidential client files regarding all aspects of program participation.
  • Provides one to one drug and alcohol counseling and support to residents tailored to their specific concerns and needs.
  • Implementation of individual care plans (with active resident involvement) through appropriate referrals, follow ups and coordination as needed. The goal is to assure that all services are coordinated and holistic which may include medical, behavioral, substance abuse, correctional, educational, and vocational services.
  • Creates and chooses curriculum that provides life skills training (personal hygiene, mental and physical health, communication, anger management, etc.) for clients/residents in group settings and one to one meetings
  • Facilitate weekly psychoeducational groups for residents
  • Acts as client advocate; acts as positive role model
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. welfare, police, parole, urgent situations)
  • Handles the admission, orientation, evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules, and discharge procedures; ensures the ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline
  • In conjunction with chaplains, provides spiritual care and direction for residents (ie bible studies, individual prayer)

Additional Duties:

Coordinating and delivering the Christmas Hamper Program and participating in the Christmas Event Planning Committee at the Centre of Hope.  Duties include recruiting and supervising volunteers as well as other staff members.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • Degree or diploma in a related field
  • WHMIS training
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Addictions counseling certificate/courses
  • Naloxone training

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of prior related experience including, frontline work in a social services setting/experience in a related field.

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Immunization for Hepatitis B
  • Vaccination against Tuberculosis

 

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
