Description

HOURS:

  • Flexibility in hours is expected, work includes days and weekends
  • Based on 30-40 hours per week for a total of 280 hours over 8 weeks starting July 6, 2020

Responsibilities

Position Purpose summary:

The Kitchen Helper assists the Cook in preparing and delivering meals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Willingness to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army and Ridge Meadows Ministries
  • Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect and empathy
  • Assist the cook in the preparation of specific food items and with the serving of food
  • Clean the kitchen and kitchen equipment as assigned
  • Help load and or unload delivery items
  • May help in washing dishes, saucepans, pots and utensils used in the operation of the kitchen
  • Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Follows policy on the use of donated foods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

  • Between 16-30 years of age at start of employment as per Canada Summer Jobs Program eligibility requirements
  • Current valid BC driver’s license and clean driving record an asset
  • Food Safe 1 basic required
  • No specific academic education required, must be able to read and write

Experience:

  • Preference given to those who have prior kitchen/restaurant helper experience
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to lift more than 20 kgs (50 pounds)
  • Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine schedule
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Records Review Program
