  • Flexibility in hours is expected and work may include evenings and weekends
  • Based on 30-40 hours per week for a total of 280 hours over 8 weeks
  • This position is subject to confirmation of funding from the Canada Summer Jobs Program
  • Earliest starting July 2, 2020, latest starting July 13, 2020


Position Purpose summary:

Help coordinate Community and Family Services Summer programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Willingness to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army and Ridge Meadows Ministries
  • Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect and empathy
  • Support, where and when possible, the efforts of all clients and co-workers
  • Coordinate packing and distributing over 400 backpacks with school supplies
  • Conduct initial intake assessments determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client
  • Organize, sort and restock supplies and non-monetary donations
  • Assist with pick up and distribution of non-monetary donations
  • Attend Public Relations events as requested
  • Assist in administration tasks such as reception, recording statistics, update client files, compiling reports
  • Give support as requested for regular programs and services



  • Between 16-30 years of age at start of employment as per Canada Summer Jobs Program eligibility requirements
  • Food Safe, CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset
  • Current valid BC driver’s license and clean driving record an asset


  • Team oriented with ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Computer and word processing ability

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public
  • Effective communication skills
  • Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to lift more than 15 kgs (30 pounds)
  • Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine schedule
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Records Review Program
