Description

The Sales Associate works in the Thrift Store in a variety of ways. They will provide customer service, assist in the processing of donations, assist in the maintenance and daily operations of the store, and assist in opening and closing of the store.

Hours of work are up to 12 hours per week on average.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains store re: cleanliness, displays, setup
  • Contributes to the safety of staff and customers (eg . snow removal, keeping exits clear, etc)
  • Works with customers, public and volunteers
  • Operates cash register/interact transactions accurately
  • Processes donations including pricing of stock
  • Opens and closes store

Qualifications

Minimum Education Level Attained:

The successful job applicant will have completed High School/Grade 12 or have equivalent experience pertaining to the job.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

N/A

Minimum Prior Related Experience:

Prior retail or other relevant experience an asset

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:

The performance of the job requires continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, lifting, kneeling an entering data for transactions.

Concentration Required:

The performance of the job requires visual monitoring and frequently working with numbers.

Responsibility for Financial Resources:

The performance of the job requires the accurate handling of cash and electronic funds transactions as well as assisting with daily deposits.

Responsibility for Human Resources:

The performance of the job requires the ability to direct and work with Volunteers in completing daily tasks, as well as working with other staff.

Work Environment:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the store.

The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Garbage
  • Washrooms
  • Odours
  • Truck Fumes
  • Verbal Abuse
  • Dealing with angry people
  • Work schedule may impact life (weekends & weeknights)

Exposure to Hazards:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illness due to:

  • Physical attacks by others
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals
  • Moving objects
  • Risk of muscle strains/back injuries
  • Other potentially dangerous situations (robberies)

Precautionary Measures:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal Precautions
  • Wear Gloves to sort
  • Use fatigue mats when required.
