This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Shifts may be mornings, afternoons or evenings. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Normal hours of operation are varied shifts of morning afternoon and evenings. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable.

Normal location of work is at Grace Haven 138 Herkimer Street Hamilton, ON L8P 2H1

Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support prenatal clients, mothers and babies throughout the shift as required which will include providing short term respite for infants, following client plans of care and managing client behaviours.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the building throughout weeknights and weekend shifts will include client room checks and security checks as required.
  • Perform administrative responsibilities which will include understanding and following the ministry licensing requirements, maintaining records such as the logbooks, progress notes as well as completing incident reports as required.
  • Administer and record medications in the medication binder according to ministry licensing requirements.
  • Complete evening and weekend household chore responsibilities (cleaning, baking and cooking, prepping food) as required.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of the agency and uphold health and safety expectations.
  • Maintain communication with the Program Manager as well as conduct shift change with residential staff.
  • Assist in the orientation training for new employees as required.
  • Attend residential team meetings as required.
  • Complete documentation as set out by the agency
  • Perform other position related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Completed two (2) years or more of Community College.
  • Diploma/Degree in Child and Youth Worker/Social Service Worker preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience, including front-line casework.
  • Residential experience working with teens in a 24/7 environment including holidays and stats.
  • Working experience and formal education with Young Parent population and their infants with an understanding of pregnancy and parenting as well as knowledgeable in the developmental stages from infancy through adolescence.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to provide a supportive and non-judgmental approach.
  • Current Safe Food Handling Certification
  • Current First Aid/CPR and NVCI
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Proficient in documentation as required, knowledge and experience in meal planning and preparation
  • Ability to time manage housekeeping tasks as required.
  • Proficient in computer use, i.e. word, excel and emails
  • Good time management and ability to prioritize as required.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check Vulnerable Sector screening this is satisfactory of The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured through the National Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
