This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required.

The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.

It is a 24 hours and 7 days position with three shifts daily, 12:00am-8:00am, 8:00am-4:00pm and 4:00pm-12:00am.

Normal location of work is at Windsor Centre of Hope, 355 Church Street, Windsor ON N9A 7G9.

  • Participate in development and implementation of treatment plans
  • Report to program Manager progress, changes and / or regression in the client’s status
  • Within the client’s existing environment encourage, where applicable, positive life-style alternatives: socialization, grooming and hygiene, external social opportunities, respect for dignity of themselves and others, support client ownership of own actions and problem solving
  • Seek to enhance your role with service providers so as to engender confidence and trust
  • Do not act as an advocate, unless gross concerns indicate a need, then refer to your Manager for consultation before intervention
  • Help clients develop problem solving and coping skills
  • Referral to in-house counselor for addiction assessment, counseling and / or referral
  • Maintenance of records
  • Interpersonal and intrapersonal guidance
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Handler out and ordering of medications, record medication on eMAR system
  • Maintain qualifications requested for this position
  • Dispense PNA for client when required
  • Monitor basic medical care and follow-up documents
  • Ensure that fire safety and public health standard care is maintained
  • Communicate with outside agencies as required
  • Identify severe dysfunctional behaviors i.e. substance abuse, etc. and consult program Manager
  • Be a friend, a visitor, a good listener, an affirmer at every opportunity and an encourager
  • Plan and implement a meaningful weekly program held at WCOH
  • Responsible for keeping the floor and client’s room clean
  • Available for other WCOH duties as needed
  • Be honest, courteous and punctual
  • Be prepared to act in best interest of employer
  • Treat property of employer and client with due care
  • Other job related duties as assigned by Manager.


  • Minimum Secondary School Diploma with at least two years relevant experience; A University degree, college diploma or certificate from a recognized institution with studies in counseling or related experience is preferred
  • Experience working with a diverse population, including mental health and addictions, is an asset
  • To maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and staff of The Salvation Army
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions
  • To communicate effectively and efficiently in a positive manner as it relates to all levels of interaction with colleagues, clients and community
  • Good computer working skills with Microsoft office and using working email for communication.
  • Ability to learn some special software or web-based program used in workplace
  • Experience with or willing to learn program specific software such as; HIFIS and MED e-care
  • A high degree of proficiency in duties as well as being able to handle and prioritize numerous tasks and evident desire for self-development, ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Professionally keep written records on clients as if to be read by the client
  • Be sensitive and empathetic to vulnerability of clientele, Self-motivated and disciplined
  • Possess and implement skills claimed in a competent manner, excellent computer and clerical skills
  • Updated Criminal Records Check (in six months) , First Aid/CPR certificate, WHIMS certificate, and medical clearance with TB test result within 24 months qualify for working in Class II licence lodging home under Government Act
  • Hold a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License, a current driver’s abstract that is acceptable from a liability and risk management perspective
  • Must have Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
