Description

The primary purpose of all Salvation Army music sections is to serve as an instrument to proclaim the Christian gospel. All other activities and functions of The Salvation Army’s music sections are only considered proper when this ultimate goal is observed. Within the framework of the primary purpose, a pianist can be a powerful evangelistic tool. Music is also a means to attract and hold members to the movement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support The Salvation Army mission through various music and gospel arts programs.
  • Play piano or additional instruments as soloist.
  • Practice playing instruments or singing to improve their technique.
  • Rehearse music and parts to prepare for performances.

HOURS: Three hours per week

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of high school and music courses
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Up to one year of related experience

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible to maintain a level of competency and understand Sections 25 and 26 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Good interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Passion for music is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive, productive, and supportive relationships with the community, corps members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Valid driver’s license, own vehicle and insurance; a current drivers abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, may be required.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through local police detachment
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
