The Brantford Booth Centre is a 50 bed emergency men’s hostel and Correctional Residence Facility, offering room and board to men who requires transitional housing and federal release programs. It is a 24-hour operation.



Service Responsibilities

  • Ensure Residents confidentiality.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety compliance.
  • Receive residents and visitors in a pleasant manner.
  • Maintain the safety of the Residents and the building.
  • Maintain a visible profile in all areas of the residence.
  • Answer telephone calls, take messages and transfer calls in a pleasant manner.
  • Accept and record residents’ fees and write receipts for all such monies received and balance cash.
  • Register new Residents completing all related documents, forms and procedures and also ensure the new residents have read, understand and sign the House Rules Sheet.
  • Conduct routine security rounds of the building and record in the logbook when rounds are conducted.  Rounds include a check of all areas in the building (lounges, washrooms, dining room, stairwells etc.) and fire exit doors.
  • Complete all required shift reports.
  • Record activities and incidents during shift in a factual and concise manner using the logbooks and/or incidents reports.
  • Process “Bag Lunch” and “Late Meal” requests in accordance with Policy and Procedure.
  • Maintain and update the Residents’ daily bed register.
  • Provide wake up calls to residents as required.
  • Clear dorms as per policy.
  • Be available to distribute meal cards and/or tickets.
  • Care for all keys and desk petty cash box.
  • Respond to emergencies in the building.
  • Report maintenance problems.
  • Respond and service malfunctions of resident’s rooms and dorm toilets.
  • Shovel the Hostel entrance way to street sidewalk when it snows.
  • Ensure no visitors after 10:00PM.
  • Ensure no person demonstrating unacceptable behaviors is permitted into or in the building.
  • Keep lounges tidy.
  • Deal with problem solving effectively.
  • Initiate and actively pursue high standards in the job function.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Adhere to standards consistent with the values and philosophy of the Centre and of The Salvation Army.
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Engage in regular supervision with your supervisor at mutually determined intervals.
  • Engage in formal evaluation sessions with your supervisor at three, six and twelve month intervals in the first year of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Represent the Organization in a professional manner.

Perform other duties as required.


This is a permanent Part-time position with 15 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Shifts: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

  • May work with potentially aggressive clients.


  • University/College Diploma in Social Services (preferred), and/or combination of education and life related experience in working with marginalized individuals.
  • Possess current WHMIS, First Aid, CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.


  • Competent on word processing equipment, such as Windows XP, Microsoft Office, Excel.


  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
