Description

The Brantford Booth Centre is a 50 bed emergency men’s hostel and Correctional Residence Facility, offering room and board to men who requires transitional housing and federal release programs. It is a 24-hour operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation and serving of meals.
  • Prepare and serve breakfast for residents on given mornings.
  • Maintain the highest level of hygiene and cleanliness while performing all duties.
  • Make bag lunches in accordance with bag lunch policy and procedure.
  • Prepare evening snacks for residents.
  • Prepare any necessary preparations for the following day.
  • Help cook with kitchen duties.
  • Wash pots, pans, and dishes.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety compliance.
  • Stockroom: keep clean and tidy including all shelving and put away new stock.
  • Keep dining room clean and tidy.
  • Clean kitchen/dining room stainless steel and glass surfaces on a regular basis.
  • Sweep and wash all floors in kitchen, stockroom, kitchen washroom, walk-in fridge, and dining room.
  • Clean stoves/fryers/ovens and washrooms as directed.
  • Take out garbage at the end of shift.
  • Have a knowledge of all equipment, their function, and operations.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the standards consistent with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army Brantford Booth Centre.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and in-service training opportunities.
  • Represent The Salvation Army Brantford Booth Centre in a profession manner.

Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a permanent part-time position with 15 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Shifts: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday to Sunday

  • May work with potentially aggressive clients.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate (Certificate) in Food Safety, Food Handling.
  • Secondary School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum two years working experience in the Institutional/Commercial Food Industry.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Must be flexible and willing to work shifts on weekdays/weekends and on public holiday as well as shifts required by the Manager.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
