Position Purpose Summary:

The Director of Children and Youth Ministries will work alongside Richmond Hill Community Church’s Corps Officers and Leadership Team providing mentoring, discipleship, and outreach ministry to children and youth within the congregation and the local community.



Plan, develop and implement and evaluate all aspects of a balanced children and youth ministry for school aged children and youth focusing on the areas of mentorship, , scheduling, discipleship, worship and outreach, providing oversight and direction

  • Work in collaboration with Richmond Hill Community Church’s children and youth leaders regarding the regular activities. Includes Nursery, Kids Quest Tots (3-5), Kids Quest (6-12), Kids Quest Plus (7-9), F3Y (6-8), Fuel (9-12)
  • Establish Schedules for Sunday Morning Children’s Program
  • Recruit, train, and orient volunteer teachers to material, assign tasks and arrange planning and evaluation meeting(s)
  • Actively participate in delivery of the program.
  • RHCC Social Media Parents Page, assisting parents with weekly emails from Orange, parent updates and invites to events

Work with volunteers and Community and Family Services coordinator to organize and oversee annual summer Camp at Home (CAH)

  • May involve working with Divisional CAH team or planning a local RHCC CAH
  • Establish theme and order materials
  • Recruit volunteers, orient volunteers to material, assign tasks and arrange planning and evaluation meeting(s)
  • Advertise and promote through all means possible, especially with church contacts, CFS contacts and summer campers
  • Actively participate in the delivery of CAH
  • Plan and deliver CAH Sunday at the end of the program, ensuring participation from children and volunteers
  • Ensure follow-up with children and families, encouraging attendance at CAH Sunday and existing church programs

Plan and guide the delivery of Children and Youth Sunday Services in collaboration with the Corps Officer(s), and ensuring the preparation and involvement of children and youth

  • Offer support and facilitate the involvement of children and youth in worship as required

Be actively involved in outreach to the children and youth of our community, interacting and building relationships with children, youth and their families and encouraging involvement in existing Church programs

Work with volunteers to provide discipleship to children and youth and facilitate ongoing mentoring of the same

Plan and give immediate oversight to special youth events, youth mission opportunities, youth discipleship and small groups

  • Work with existing leaders in providing small group Bible studies for youth
  • Recruit, train and involve youth in local youth mission opportunities. (i.e. Christmas campaign)
  • Promote youth mission opportunities available at the divisional or territorial level. (i.e. short term mission trips)

Recruit and equip capable, qualified leaders and volunteers for children and youth ministry and mobilize training

  • Keep up to date on youth leadership needs, and actively engage in recruiting leaders throughout the year, processing potential leaders and volunteers in the appropriate manner
  • Promote and participate in training events hosted by the division and/or other suitable organizations



Work with corps officers and volunteers to promote and support divisional events, camps and programs

  • Promote, recruit and participate in divisional events. (i.e. Fuse, Junior Youth Councils)
  • Promote, recruit and screen all applications for various camps, working with local leaders and volunteers to ensure the registration process is complete

Working in conjunction with Children and Youth Team, ensure regulation compliance with of all Salvation Army policy related to Youth Worker Screening Process and monitor for all youth workers and volunteers, keeping up-to-date records

  • Screen new volunteers according to Salvation Army policy and procedures ensuring all steps are completed prior to ministry involvement. Also ensuring that all volunteers new and current comply with all TSA policies including but not limited to: Police Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Screening, Praesidium Abuse Prevention Online Training, WSIB training, Statement of Applicant for Work with Children
  • Distribute all necessary forms and applications to potential and existing volunteers as required

Other duties as determined by the RHCC Corps Officer



  • Applicant to have up to two (2) years of University /Community College or post-secondary education relating to Children and Youth Pastoralship and/or an applicable level of field-related training, knowledge and experience
  • Experience working with children and youth in a church environment
  • Experience working with volunteers

  • Strong organizational, motivational, administrative and computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills / positive attitude
  • Communication skills (both oral & written) and an ability to interact with the public
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Good computer skills / ability to embrace growing technology needs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint); the Internet and Social Media
  • Teachable spirit / provides and takes direction / a willingness to be coached
  • Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s license
  • Work with children and youth in a compassionate, non-judge mental manner
  • Complete tasks with minimum amount of supervision
  • Confident, self-motivated, mission minded, team player, able to work with other staff or independently
  • Be flexible, motivated and an efficient problem solver
  • Demonstrate a dependable work ethic and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Work independently; maintain confidentiality; while part of a larger team, projecting a positive, professional and helpful attitude

  • Ability to drive as required
  • Ability to load/unload a truck and lift/move equipment up to 40 pounds

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clear internal abuse registry check
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 15 hours per week
