Description

The Edmonton Community Resource Centre (CRC) is a logistical and distribution hub for The Salvation Army’s ministry units in Edmonton and the surrounding area. In addition to collecting and distributing resources used in the delivery of the programs and services that The Salvation Army offers in the Edmonton region, we are also responsible for volunteer engagement and recruitment, managing the Edmonton Christmas Kettle Campaign and Emergency Disaster Services for the Edmonton area. DAYS and HOURS of work: This is a temporary part time position and total hours for this position are 280. The Office Assistant and the CRC will agree to a mutually agreeable schedule but it is anticipated that all of these hours will be worked in 2020.

Responsibilities

The Office Assistant will be expected to assist with general office duties including data entry, filing, internal and external communications, general research and volunteer support. In addition to this, the youth worker will work closely with the Office Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator on two special projects as described below.
1) Functional Assessment of Volunteer Activities and Engagement
This will involve a review of the activities that volunteers perform at the CRC with an end goal of doing a better job of providing a rewarding experience for those volunteers. The ultimate goal is to ensure our volunteer system is modeled on respect and inclusiveness and better serves both our community and volunteers by making the most of the volunteers’ existing skills and interests while providing them with opportunities to grow those skills.
2) Developing an Integrated System for Recruitment and Engagement of Volunteers
This will involve a review of our current systems for recruiting and tracking volunteers with an end goal of determining a more efficient and inclusive recruitment process. The ultimate goal is to streamline our current volunteer system to better engage with those that have volunteered with us in the past and to expand our outreach in an attempt to recruit volunteers from new communities.

Qualifications

  • Meet the eligibility requirements under Canada Summer Jobs program:
o Between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
o Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
o Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations

Required Skills/Knowledge:
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
• Strong digital skills
• Effective organizational and time management skills
• Willing to take direction from supervisor and work as contributing member of a team
• Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values
• Willing to adhere to Salvation Army policies, procedures and principles

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
• Background check consent
• A clear vulnerable sector screening
• A clean drivers abstract
• Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
