JOB PURPOSE:

To oversee all areas of property its cleaning and maintenance by monitoring all operating and control systems within the facility. Responsible for assuring a comfortable, clean safe and secure environment for clients, volunteers, visitors and staff.

 

CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

  • Check on a daily basis all maintenance items, i.e. plumbing, lights, boilers, ventilation water pumps, exit lights, windows, doors etc. and report all items requiring maintenance and proceed to carry out repairs unless outside repair services are required.
  • Carry out systematic checks and evaluations of the electrical, mechanical, and plumbing and heating systems.
  • Supervise a minimum of 3 cleaners, provide assistance as required including training if applicable.
  • Checks entire facility on a daily basis for cleanliness and addresses issues with those responsible.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies including placing orders as required.
  • Responsible for staying within budget for maintenance repairs and supplies.
  • Responsible for supervision of all snow clearing and to maintain liaison with snow removal contractor.
  • Responsible for ensuring the grounds of the facility are kept in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all internal maintenance requests are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:

Preferred recognized trade (i.e. carpenter) from a recognized trade school. NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

 

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

The successful applicant will hold/have:

  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Record Check (CRC)
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training
  • Supervisory experience
  • Mechanical Aptitude
  • Carry out repairs that can be handled internally
  • Training or experience in building cleaning.
  • Driver’s License Class 5 with a Clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work within the mandate of The Salvation Army’s Mission and Values.

 

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

One to two years prior related experience.

 

Working Conditions:     6 month contract position

                                                37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday

                                                8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

                                                One half hour unpaid lunch break

                                                Two fifteen minute paid breaks
