This is a permanent, part-time position based on 16 hours per week. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24 hours a day. Shifts: varies

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Property Manager, carry out general maintenance of the property.
  • Undertake minor renovation projects, including dry walling, minor electrical repairs, painting and plumbing.
  • Follow preventative maintenance plans (daily, weekly, and monthly) as directed by the Property Manager and keep accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.
  • In the absence of the Property Manager, connect with contractors, who have been scheduled to provide service, while on property.
  • Identify/report to supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider.
  • Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
  • Receive delivery of major goods as required.
  • Provide janitorial services for the administration building including weekly office cleaning.
  • Restock washroom supplies and distribute received material as required.
  • Perform other position related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School education
  • A minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience, including general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures and equipment.
  • Effective skills in oral/written communication, interpersonal relationships and social interaction.
  • Be able to lift/move more than 20 pounds as required.
  • Strong organizational/time management skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Drivers licence, own vehicle and insurance, a copy of a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
