The Kettle Coordinator ensures the smooth running of the Kettle Campaign, maximizing donations and coordinating staffing (employees and volunteers) and will follow all safety procedures for COVID 19.

This is a temporary part-time position from October 5, 2020 to January 8, 2021 of 18 - 20 hours per week, increasing in December to full-time hours.


  • May assist in the recruitment of Kettle Workers (employees and volunteers), assisting with orientation, performance management, discipline and payroll processing.
  • Coordinates the schedule for kettle staff, and responds to emergency absences, etc.
  • Fosters and maintains positive working relationships with kettle sites, addressing conflicts/issues as they arise.
  • Delivers and picks-up kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations.
  • Hosts at kettle, as required, to ensure necessary coverage for breaks, etc.
  • May assume responsibility for coordinating kettle counters and/or overseeing counting.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly time sheets, as required, for local/divisional/territorial offices.
  • Assist with major Christmas events as required.
  • Performs other duties as assign.


Minimum Education Level Attained:

The successful job applicant will have completed High School.

NOTE:  An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • Valid Manitoba Driver’s license with own vehicle preferred.
  • Criminal Police Check.

Minimum Prior Related Experience:

  • More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced office setting.
  • Experience with general office equipment and a proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding and support of the Mission of The Salvation Army. 

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:

The performance of the job requires frequently transporting kettle stands, driving and occasionally hosting kettles.

Concentration Required:

The performance of the job requires occasional staff scheduling.

Responsibility for Financial Resources:

The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

Responsibility for Human Resources:

The incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader. He/She is responsible for providing direction and checking results, but generally works along with those supervised.  The incumbent may provide advice on hiring, firing decisions but not other supervisory decisions.

The incumbent directly supervises full-time employees, part-time employees, and/or volunteers (varies depending on the number of kettles).

Work Environment:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the Office, Car and/or Malls/Stores.

The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Driving in winter
  • Non-routine schedule

The incumbent is required to travel around Portage la Prairie.

The incumbent works on-call and carries a cell phone.
