This is a permanent, full-time position based on 34 hours per week.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Shifts: Sunday through Thursday as follows:

Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday 9:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.

Monday/Wednesday 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

  • Ensure the general upkeep of the facility, including cleaning floors, washrooms, windows and collecting and disposing of garbage and recycling items.
  • Check, clean, move, arrange and dust furniture as required.
  • Ensure the general upkeep of the external property such as keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, disposing of litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening, watering and pruning shrubs.
  • Check doors and windows to ensure building security as required during each shift.
  • Report safety concerns and repair issues to Custodian or Director of Operations immediately upon discovery.
  • Restock washroom supplies.
  • Spot washes accessible walls, strips, waxes and buffs floors, shampoos carpets.
  • Request janitorial supplies to be purchased as needed.
  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Maintain information in confidence as required.
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member in all work groups through which position responsibilities are achieved.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in supervision/annual performance review as required.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position supports in developing those skills as required.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army health and safety policies/procedures and associated legislation.
  • Participate in supervision and performance review process.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Perform other position related duties as required.


  • Will have completed public school.
  • One (1) year of previous related experience, including life skills, cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Have current First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Have current W.H.M.I.S certification.
  • Be able to lift and move more than 20 pounds as required.
  • Must adhere to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Pleasant and courteous disposition.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to obtain clearance through the Police Check (CPIC)
  • Immunization for Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
