Description

This is a permanent part-time position, based on 15 hours of work per week. The normal hours of work are two 5.5 hour shifts, worked between Monday and Friday, and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. These shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.  Due to the nature of the position, flexibility in scheduling is required and may include occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

Ensure the general upkeep of the facility, including cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage and recycling, vacuums.

Check, clean, move, arrange and dust furniture as required.

Ensure the general upkeep of the external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking.

Check doors and windows to ensure building security as required during each shift.

Report safety concerns and repair issues to management immediately upon discovery.

Restock washroom supplies.

Spot washes accessible walls, strips, waxes and buffs floors, shampoos carpets.

Request janitorial supplies to be purchased as needed.

Perform other position related duties as required.

Qualifications

Will have completed public school.

One (1) year of previous related experience, including life skills, cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures.

Self-motivated and disciplined.

Have current First Aid/CPR Certification and willing to undertake a range of Health & Safety Training upon employment, provided by employer.

Be able to lift/move more than 20 pounds as required.

Must adhere to safety procedures and regulations.

Self-motivated and disciplined.

Pleasant and courteous disposition with the ability to work well with other people.

Capable of working with minimal supervision.

Be able to obtain clearance through the Police Check (CPIC).

Immunization for Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis Testing.

Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
