Description
Assist in the planning and delivery of school age child care programs (for assigned age groupings) within the applicable legal, financial and safety framework.

The Child Care Centre is currently hiring Two (2) temporary, full-time, Inclusion Counsellor positions based on 40 hours per week starting June 26, 2023 to September 1, 2023. Normal hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break. Flexibility in scheduling is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide input into planning and assist with the implementation of appropriate aged-based (6-12 years of age) activities according to skill and learning levels that promote social interaction, personal development and successful inclusion.
- Provide intervention for any behavioral challenges.
- Responsible to familiarize self with each child attending this program recognizing and supporting each of their individual needs.
- Provide assistance with personal care as necessary.
- Assist with effective risk management; monitoring food safety, allergies, and facility cleanliness/maintenance; provides emergency first aid.
Working Conditions:
- This is a temporary full-time position based on 40 hours per week.
- Flexibility in scheduling required to meet program requirements.
- Assistant Program Director will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently: repetitive tasks, heavy lifting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.
- Long periods of standing, walking; carrying; sitting; twisting; climbing and stooping; kneeling or crouching.

- Completed Secondary School.
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification, Level C
- Current Safe Food Handling Certification.
- This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the employment.
- Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and,
- Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
- *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) months of prior work experience working with children (including special populations) and previous day camp experience will be recognized as an asset.
- Completed a Babysitter’s Course
- Current Immunization
- COVID-19 Vaccination, proof required

- Fluent French verbal and written communication skills are an asset.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
