This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Hamilton Booth Centre is a 24 hour facility. Normal location of work is at Hamilton Booth Centre, 94 York Blvd., Hamilton ON L8R 1R6.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will work within the mandate and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • This person will maintain confidentiality with regard to the work place and be respectful to all personnel associated with Booth Centre
  • Some of the duties and responsibilities are: changing/making dormitory beds; cleaning/disinfecting dormitories and washrooms; general cleaning; mopping hallways daily; laundry as needed
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • It is preferred that the successful candidate have formal training and life-related experience in the field of janitorial service.
  • Possess knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment and cleaning materials;
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to use sound judgment
  • Possess a current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates or ability to obtain same
  • Ability to lift/carry loads up to 40 lbs.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with judicial sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
