Description

To provide a clean and safe environment at The Salvation Army Ches Penney Centre of Hope

Responsibilities

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensuring general upkeep of The Salvation Army Ches Penney Centre of Hope inclusive of common areas, residents’ rooms, cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, vacuuming, collecting and disposal of garbage
  • Checking, cleaning, moving and dusting furniture as required
  • Restocking washroom supplies and distributing received material as required
  • Following proper universal precautions while performing duties
  • Following hazardous materials procedures
  • Performing other duties as per assigned for each area of the property
  • Aiding in the prevention of the spread of bedbugs
  • Required to show courtesy to clients and all those on the property of The Salvation Army Ches Penney Centre of Hope

Health and Safety:

  • Adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures in place; complies with all instructions from the employer concerning health and safety as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workers Compensation
  • Ensures all procedures, rules and guidelines for the safety and security of clients and staff are enforced and respected

Physical Effort: 

  • Operate industrial cleaning equipment and tools
  • Mop and sweep (repetitive motions)
  • Bend and twist
  • Occasionally carry out stepladder work
  • Lift more than 20 pounds with assistance

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years recent housekeeping/cleaning experience preferably with an organization that works with the marginalized population
  • Current WHMIS training or be willing to take the training upon hire
  • Non-skid CSA approved safety shoes required

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training as offered
  • Be able to supply a current clear Criminal Police/Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Be willing to obtain clearance through the Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry and be willing to sign the Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form

TERM:  Regular full-time; 40 hours per week; flexible schedules daytime and evenings
