This is a temporary, full time position for twenty five (25) hours per week. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. The operational hours of this facility 24/7 days per week.

Shifts: Monday to Friday, 08:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the general upkeep of facility such as, cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, occasional vacuum
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as, cleaning the main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks
  • Checks doors and windows to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the facility and secures the facility as needed, Check for health and safety issues and reports and issues
  • Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received material as required
  • Spot Washes walls and doors and spot shampoo carpet as required
  • Changes linens (i.e. bedding) follow hazardous materials procedures
  • Sanitization of bed, and all furniture contained therein upon guest departure
  • Does laundry for facility (linens, towels, kitchen laundry, etc.)
  • Ensures supplies are ordered, received, stored, and redistributed to the appropriate departments and storage areas.
  • As required and applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures, to management.
  • Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army and The Sudbury Centre.
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Engage in formal evaluation sessions and supervision at 3 and 6 months during the first year of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employee Handbook. Every employee must read and sign that they have read, a copy of the Policies and procedures and understand that they will be required to adhere to all guidelines in their dealings with Residents and Clients, as well as with Staff and Administration.
  • Redirect clients to appropriate Residential, Support and/or overnight Workers.
  • Become familiar with the provisions of the Position Description and Operational Manual which will be provided for the position.
  • Knowledge and use of best practice and know how to use Universal Precautions
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Bilingualism an asset.

Qualifications

  • The successful applicant will hold a grade 12 OSSD
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) which includes Vulnerable population check
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training and WHMIS
  • eTraining and Working with Children training onsite
  • Must be able to manage flights of stairs
  • Experience working with a vulnerable population.
  • More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • The performance of the job requires operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping and sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
  • Suitable written and oral skills
  • The incumbent is required to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion
  • Be familiar with the Ontario health and safety codes and standards
