This is a permanent, part-time position based on 1-10 hours per week.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Normal hours of operation are Evenings and Weekends (various shifts) and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable.  Normal location of work is at The Salvation Army, 365 14th Street West, Owen Sound, ON.  Satellite site located at 5 McGivern Street, Walkerton, ON.

  • Supervise children’s visits according to Court orders or other relevant agreements
  • Communicate with clients as required regarding childcare instructions, etc.
  • Intervene when appropriate to ensure child safety and welfare and terminate visit when required
  • Provide feedback/correction to the relevant party as necessary.
  • Obtain information gathered  during supervised  access visits and prepare accurate and detailed  documentation of all visits in a timely manner
  • Perform other position related duties as required
  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
  • Maintain information in confidence as required
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member in all work groups through which position responsibilities are achieved
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position supports in developing those skills as required
  • Participate in supervision and performance appraisal process
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring the Supervised Access environment provides a safe and positive experience for staff, children and families it serves.
  • Comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures
  • Attend/participate in staff meetings as required
  • Ensure that all certifications are maintained as required
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training


  • Degree in Social Work or Counselling
  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience in a Supervised Access program, or in a comparable setting working with children and families in crisis
  • Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and First Aid & CPR certifications
  • Strong oral and written communication and relational skills
  • Negotiation, conciliation and conflict management skills
  • Self-motivated and disciplined
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and attentive listening skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
