This position provides advice and guidance to the Gender Equity Officer by providing relevant theological input to the practice of gender equity within our organization. The purpose of this role is to help to define, understand, assess, foster and cultivate equity organizationally and to ensure that there is adherence to related legislation and Salvation Army policies and procedures. This role provides support in the areas of theological research, policy alignment, program development and best practices concerning equity, diversity and inclusion.



  • Create and engage in relevant theological research and reflection with respect to the organizational reality of gender equity in collaboration with Gender Equity Advocate and the Gender Equity Taskforce
  • Theological consider and suggest best practices in the field of Gender Equity with suggestions for The Salvation Army
  • Complete theological reflection and writing in a teamwork relationship with the advocate for Gender Equity and the Gender Equity Taskforce
  • Identify areas requiring improvement in terms of equity for the Gender Equity Taskforce and provide potential strategies to ensure equitable practices are embedded into organizational practice

Research Communication

  • Manage communication and provide written theological reflections to continually inform the practice of the Gender Equity Taskforce
  • Explain theological process and share findings with interested parties
  • Take initiative to ensure that the research gathered reflects the needs of the organization and provides next steps for the Gender Equity Taskforce
  • Coordinate effective communication of theological papers


The successful candidate must meet the following requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Program:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred
  • Is legally entitled to work according to the provincial / territorial legislations and regulations

Education and Experience

  • Working toward completion of a university degree in social sciences (gender studies, psychology, etc.), theological studies, or related field


  • Experience working on a gender equity or inclusion project would be considered an asset
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Able to work in a consultative, diplomatic and tactful manner

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - clear and simple to understand
  • Effective organizational and time management skills – self-motivated and disciplined self-starter
