Position Purpose Summary:

As a member of the Thrift Store team, the Thrift Store Clerk will be involved in all aspects of the operation of the Thrift Store, including greeting customers, sorting and pricing clothing, working cash, ensuring the store is well stocked, the displays are appealing and that the store is neat and clean.

Responsibilities

Backroom:

  • Processes raw materials by unloading, assorting, packing, storing, loading donations
  • Protects the integrity of the donations
  • Meets assigned daily target with incoming and outgoing donations
  • Keeps work area clear and tidy

 

Store:

  • Replenishes inventory levels based on Manager’s directions
  • Protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
  • Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards
  • Ensures attractiveness of the store through ‘Tidy Maintenance’
  • Contributes to the safety of staff and customers
  • Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions
  • Possesses knowledge of stock in order to help customers/phone inquiries

Other:

  • Supervises volunteers as required
  • Represents The Salvation Army in a professional manner
  • Follows policies and procedures
  • Performs others duties as required

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Previous related retail experience
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Be in agreement with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army
  • Previous cash experience an asset
  • Background in working with volunteers an asset
  • Good listening skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 28 hours per week
