Position Purpose summary:
To support the everyday operations of The Gateway shelter, to build relationships with Gateway residents and Community Members, and to positively contribute to the Frontline Staff team.
Responsibilities
Service Responsibilities
- Patrols catchment area each day looking for people experiencing homelessness and offering support
- Develops trusting relationships with people experiencing homelessness and sleeping rough
- Networks with community agencies to aid in outreach potential
- Provides support, assistance and encouragement to clients
- Responds to concerned citizen calls forwarded through Streets to Homes in timely manner
- Makes necessary referrals to shelter, health care, professional counseling, spiritual and religious care, and other relevant supports
- Supports, advocates for and refers clients to housing and related resources with the goal of reintegration into community
- Conducts initial intake assessments to determine immediate needs and appropriate supports
- Assists Outreach Supervisor with data analysis for program, recording statistics, writing and submitting reports to Gateway and Streets to Homes (funder)
- Recommends and assists in the development and revision of Outreach Program policies
- Performs all necessary clerical duties for client documentation, including Streets to Homes Documentation, computer entries, and logbook entries
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- 2 years of College Social Services education and/or Psychology diploma or certificate
- Minimum of two-year experience in the field of Mental Health or Addictions
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable
- Knowledge and understanding of homelessness, addictions and mental health
- Strong working knowledge of community resources
- Strong command of English language and interpersonal skills
- Promotes teamwork
- Certification in First Aid/CPR and Crisis intervention training
- Certification in ASIST
- Hostel Standards Training Certificate an asset
- Valid Driver’s License
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually
HOURS: 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday
