Position Purpose Summary:

The Divisional Financial Analyst will provide analytical services related to all financial matters of the division. Included in the mandate are analyses of the financial health of all ministry units and will assist with the annual budget preparation / approval process.  The financial analyst will support the mandate of the DFS of the Ontario Central East Division, which has approx. 90 ministry units and a total budget of $140.000.000.

Responsibilities

  • Analysis of the financial statements of the ministry units and make recommendations for improvement of the financial health
  • Special projects as determined by the DFB/DC/DSBA (such as in-depth analysis of thrift stores, cartridge income, etc.)
  • Participate in the division’s annual budget preparation by reviewing the appropriate documentation and liaising with ministry units in the areas of budgetary planning and fiscal policy
  • Provide advice and support to all ministry units of financial systems (Shelby, Agresso, TEM) to new finance personnel in the division
  • Ensure ministry unit compliance with standards and best practices as established by THQ
  • Participate in training of staff (both current and new/DHQ and MU) on financial accounting systems which may include traveling to various ministry units.
  • Processes all accounts payables and receivables for DHQ on a timely basis
  • Prepares bank deposits for DHQ on a timely basis
  • Issues tax receipts for DHQ donations
  • Provides coding support to DHQ staff and ministry units
  • Prepares, and reviews reconciliations (suspense accounts such as unallocated revenue, Element, Visas) for DHQ, DHQ related MU’s
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must have completed post secondary education in accounting
  • Minimum 1 year but less than 3 years of prior related experience including business accounting and analytical experience
  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must be organized and mange time well
  • Must be a team member, and take initiative when needed
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team environment
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel), experience in financial accounting systems would be an asset
  • Must be able maintain confidentiality
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Understanding of and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada

 

 

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear criminal record check
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 40 hours per week
