Position Purpose Summary:

The full time Community and Family Services Ministries Worker provides assistance as directed by the Ministry Unit to individuals and families within our service area with a holistic approach in accordance with The Salvation Army’s mission, values and standards.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Represent Salvation Army values to the community
  • Work to ensure that the missional goals of The Salvation Army are met in Bracebridge
  • Work under the direction of The Salvation Army Community Ministries Officer to ensure that all services and programs are meeting the requirements of The Salvation Army policies and other contractual, legal and internal obligations and for planning of future services or programs based on client needs
  • Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in SA Employee Relations Policy Manual and Community and Family Services Policy Manual
  • Provide client intake services, client assessment, emergency assistance in accordance with policies and practices of The Salvation Army Family Services
  • Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients, staff and volunteers endeavoring to integrate them into the body of Christ, as appropriate, including linking to the church family and church programs
  • Provide referrals to appropriate ministry offered by the Bracebridge Community Church Corps (e.g. Pathway of Hope, KidzOwn, Church, Spiritual Counselling, Baby Song, Seniors Lunches, Food Explorers, VBS, Camping Ministries, etc.)
  • Provides assistance to community ministries programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives
  • Remain informed and work with local community services agencies to coordinate resources and ensure that client needs are met
  • Provide referrals to appropriate community programs as deemed important to the client
  • Assume responsibility for The Salvation Army Camp Program (registration and organize drop off and pick up)
  • Assume responsibility for the Christmas Assistance Program (registrations and organization of distribution)
  • Responsible for ensuring that food bank shelves are fully stocked each week by filling out an inventory list and referring to Corps Officer or volunteer person to purchase items needed
  • Managing of volunteers (making sure they have adequate paperwork on file, training and are treated with utmost respect and dignity)
  • Ensures food bank and facilities (especially shared kitchen) are kept clean, tidy and safe daily
  • Receives donations with gratitude and organizes non-monetary donations according to policy and standard food guidelines
  • Wearing of provided Salvation Army branded clothing to represent the organization in a clean and professional manner
  • Arrange adequate volunteers for required work to be accomplished (Railside deliveries, stocking of shelves, food donation pickups, food purchasing, Christmas distribution)
  • Answers the phone with professionalism and willing to assist all as part of a team environment
  • Input all client interaction into the Link2Feed software
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of Community and Family Services statistical reports to Divisional Headquarters
  • Ensure that there are always Emergency Food bags available in the front office
  • Attend regular Regional Community and Family Services meeting along with the Corps Officer
  • Support and assist with Emergency Disaster Response
  • Performs other duties/tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Social Work or other Human Services Field or related experience
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:  

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field; working with social service agencies/services and clients
  • Have the ability to work within a Christian faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army
  • Have a keen interest in the social services sector and possess a genuine concern for and interest in the marginalized of society
  • Previous experience in social services setting
  • Demonstrated competence in developing and maintaining appropriate and confidential client relationships and interagency relations
  • Possess good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as conflict management skills
  • Able to work as a part of and contribute to a team based environment
  • Being able to lift and carry heavy objects as required
  • Willing to participate in PR campaigns

Skills and Capabilities:  

  • A valid Driver’s License
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • A team player; ability to work in a compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental manner
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to enter data and perform statistical analysis efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when required providing necessary information and documentation, if necessary
  • Detail oriented skills and ability to juggle multiple cases
  • High standards of integrity, judgment and confidentiality and an ability to model the values and standards of The Salvation Army
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public, government, business leaders and professionals
  • Strong commitment to and ability to clearly articulate the mission statement, values and beliefs of The Salvation Army

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 40 hours per week
