Position Purpose summary:

The Community & Family Services Coordinator will ensure an adequate response to basic needs of vulnerable members of our community.

 

Responsibilities

General

  • Coordinate and provide leadership to Community and Family Services (C&FS) programs. Coordinate and facilitate these with food bank worker and a volunteer base
  • Develop and implement strategies with Thrift Store Manager & Community Ministries Supervisor to build and strengthen bridges between The Salvation Army (TSA) and the community
  • Assist with ongoing strategic planning to ensure community and family services based programs reflect the needs of the community

Administration

  • Supervise the food bank worker
  • Ensure clients are registered and updated in the data management system, Link to Feed
  • Ensure appointments are set up and processed for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) & the Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)
  • Set and maintain appointment schedule for food bank, clothing and furniture vouchers, referrals as well as bank deposits and other official documentation
  • Network with TSA, government, community social service providers, local schools and churches to coordinate resources and explore partnerships for the benefit of Napanee C&FS
  • Maximize funding opportunities for the financing and development of our C&FS ministries
  • Assist in the selection of the Christmas Kettle Program Coordinator and work in coordination with the Kettle Coordinator ensuring proper TSA procedures and best practices are followed.
  • Ensure facility and programming meets accessibility, and any other pertinent codes
  • Keep track of staff and volunteer hours for proper processing and recording.
  • Plan and participates in regular office meetings including Health & Safety, Community Gardens Project
  • Complete Grant Proposals
  • Rotary Club Member, Poverty Reduction Committee member
  • Participate in development and maintenance of emergency preparedness disaster plan
  • Assist in advertising, recruiting and interviewing, training of new employees.

 Volunteer Supervision

  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers
  • Scheduling of volunteers and assigning duties as necessary
  • Addresses volunteer concerns

Coordinate and provide leadership to Community & Family Services programs

  • Coordinate & deliver monthly Good Food boxes, food drives, and annual Kettle Campaign
  • Ensure that client needs are met in compliance with Salvation Army policies and in cooperation with other agencies
  • Ensure that the various client assistance programs are successfully carried out, such as the Christmas Toy Drive & Hampers, access to clothing, furniture, etc.
  • Ensure food donations are organized according to date and appropriate location (prevention of donated food going out of date)
  • Ensure that successful Food Drives are conducted to stock the Food Bank with needed items
  • Register children for Summer Adventure Camps and coordinate transportation with assigned Corps grouping

Other Duties

  • Provide spiritual guidance; using opportunities to pray and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients/families
  • Ensures Food Bank, kitchen and any other area used are kept clean
  • Help to coordinate volunteer appreciation events or other such events
  • Other duties as required

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Completion of at least two years Community College in a human services field
  • A minimum of two years of prior related experience
  • Previous experience managing volunteers and staff
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Pleasant and courteous manner
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office, Excel, CMS (Client Management System), etc.
  • Food Handling Certificate
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR or ability to obtain one upon hiring recommended
  • Able to work in compliance with The Salvation Army Mission Statement
  • Possess problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, care management and leadership skills
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team oriented setting

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 35 hours per week
