Description

This is a permanent, full-time position based upon an up to 40 hour weekly schedule.  This is a 24/7 operation and shifts will include afternoons, weekends, and overnights and includes ½ hour unpaid meal breaks.

This is a unionized position.

Responsibilities

The incumbent, exercises considerable initiative, carries out the duties of the position with minimal direction and day to day supervision.

Admit clients to the Hostel and facilitate intake process for clients; record basic, required information and provide information to the client as well.

Orientate clients to Centre regulations, schedules, expectations, as well as all available services.

Assist with the supervision of clients and provide support, assistance and encouragement to clients.

Maintain appropriate boundaries to ensure respect of clients’ space, safety of clients, self and staff/co-workers.

Perform all necessary clerical duties for client documentation, including social services forms, computer

Record and report activities, behaviors, and any incidents which occur during shift; reports concerns to on call personnel and be able to decide if it is an emergency vs. imminent.

Keep appropriate records in the logbook and enter into HIFIS accordingly.

Ensure all doors and windows are locked and secure.  Answer door (via intercom), person and/or telephone during shift. Answer the telephone, direct all calls as necessary, and take messages to ensure they are forwarded to the proper personnel.

Take messages for clients; post on the board, ensuring confidential information is not disclosed concerning clients and their whereabouts.

Distribute client medications, document as per policy and ensure the safety/security of all client medications stored in a locked location.

Accept donations, record details regarding the donor’s name, address; accept cash donations outside of business hours, and accurately document donor details and issue a “temporary receipt.”

Produce a cash balance/recap of all receipts during the shift, turn in all monies received and place all money in the designated safe with appropriate form attached.

Carry out regularly scheduled security rounds and record details as per policy utilizing the logbook and appropriate forms provided.  Report any health and safety concern via incident report to the appropriate department manager.

Monitor video surveillance of the building exterior and take appropriate action as required.

Maintain adequate form supplies and replenish when required

Maintain information in confidence as outlined in policy and procedures to ensure both client and staff anonymity.

Ensure that all door alarms and the front door switch are engaged at all times.  Use INTERCOM if you are not familiar with the person.

Perform other position related duties as required.

Qualifications

Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Work, Addictions, Counseling or related field(s)

More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience

Basic computer and clerical skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

Bilingualism is considered an asset.

Ability to work unsupervised and also function as a team member.

Current Certifications in First Aid/CPR and NCVI

Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening (where applicable) that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

Must be able to confirm and maintain Enhanced Reliability Screening through Corrections Canada and The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
