  • The Family Service Operations Administrator provides oversight of Family Service functions and services provided under the mandate of The Salvation Army Chilliwack Care & Share Centre.
  • This is a position based on 40 hours per week with the flexible hours to provide supervision to all Family Service Programs, including weekend service delivery.
  • Work environment is typically in the office, performing visual checks and dealing with and defusing verbal or physical confrontations. 
  • Directly supervises 2 – 10 full-time, part-time, casual employees and/or volunteers.
  • Assist the Volunteer Coordinator in training and supervision of volunteers.
  • Assist Food Bank & EDS Coordinator in mutual areas of operations.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Family Service departments, including but not limited to, Soup Kitchen, Voucher room and front/Intake offices, through the guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • To be aware of resources available to clients through The Salvation Army or other community agencies.
  • Participation in policy/strategic development and accreditation preparation.
  • Direct supervision of the Christmas Program, including but not limited to, Adopt-a-Family, Christmas Central and Hamper Distribution.
  • Attend meetings pertaining to operations concerning Family Services as required by management.
  • While representing The Salvation Army, informal uniform is to be worn when making presentations or receiving goods/funds.
  • Computer knowledge of data base programs, drafting, typing, proofreading routine documentation such as forms, letters, memos & emails and other assignments.
  • Assists in preparing annual budgets or revenue projections for the department; monitors department expenditures; may laisse with auditors or funding officials.   They have input to new policies and procedures pertaining to their department.
  • May assist in annual fundraising efforts (Christmas in July, service clubs participation, Kettle campaign)
  • Preparing reports and presenting them at SA Chilliwack Operations monthly meetings
  • Consult with the Management or designate on issues as they arise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Education, Training and Experience including lifeskills:

  • One year previous experience in supervision and budgeting
  • Must have Police Security Clearance Certificate.
  • Awareness and compliance with CHWK Policies & Procedures.
  • Must have more than one year but less than three years of prior related experience in a wide range of social service programs, supervising people and resources, and communicating orally and in writing with government officials and/or funders
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have completed up to two years of community college.
  • Must be a self-motivated multi-tasker who is able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Supervision skills with a strong emphasis on team building.
  • Ability to relate to and engage marginalized people with a positive outcome perspective while remaining non-judgmental.
  • Willingness to work with individuals of differing backgrounds and cultures than your own.
  • Must be agreeable to a flexible work schedule and be willing to work long hours including Saturday and in emergency situations.
  • Must have more than basic computer knowledge and word processing skills.
  • Must be people oriented and possess strong leadership, organizational, judgment skills and public relations skills.

Work Environment:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically located at the Care & Share Centre.

The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Dealing with angry people
  • Verbally abusive people
  • Frequent interruptions and multitasking
  • Temperature variations (ie front door opening and closing)
  • Equipment and general office noise

The employee may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:

  • Physical attacks by others
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals

  • Some travel may be required at times.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
