Description
We are seeking a committed Early Childhood Assistant with a passion for interacting with young children and working within a team environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Understand and comply with provincial, municipal and The Salvation Army Policies, Procedures and Standards, including new COVID-19 Policies and Procedures
- Adheres to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provides required adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
- Plan and implement a consistent child-centred program in accordance with “How Does Learning Happen”
- Provide high quality experiences based on the children’s interests
- Provide within the environment various areas where children can explore, play happily and safely, ask questions and where hands on learning can take place with the involvement and support of the Educator
- Carry out all daily routines following the center’s policies & procedures
- Complete enhanced cleaning as per our COVID-19 Sanitary Practices Policy

- Maintain positive communication with parents through daily contact & our app
- Ability to work within a team and be part of a large multi-service, Christian charitable Organization
- Attends staff meetings, required training and all other relevant professional development opportunities necessary for the position. Maintains qualifications and certifications as required by the provincial standards.
- Participate in parent nights and special events such as Christmas concerts, fundraising, field trips, Church programs, etc.
Perform other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending and stooping
- Must be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours Monday to Friday, able to work split shifts, early morning and mid-late afternoons
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- This position is funded in part the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- Is between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment.
- Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- *International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has ben granted refugee status in Canada.
- Excellent Oral & written communication skills required to work with children, parents and other staff
- Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening completed
- Updated Medical completed
- Standard First Aid & Level C CPR
- Complete all on-line Salvation Army courses
- Food Handlers Certificate an asset
- RECE diploma an asset
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle an asset (travel to multiple locations)
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Preference would be given to those who have previous experience working in a Child Care or working with groups of children
- Knowledge of Child Care and Early Years Act, How Does Learning Happen and City of Toronto AQI an asset
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
