Description

The Driver/Janitor executes pick-ups from donors and to clients. Additionally, will maintain the cleanliness of the facility, property and grounds.

Hours of work are Monday - Friday, 6:00 am - 1:30 pm.

Responsibilities

Driver

  • Ensures the safe and careful handling of all deliveries, donations, and funds entrusted to him/her while protecting all aspects of property
  • Takes responsibility for daily and overall safety, maintenance, operation of vehicles
  • Provides donors and clients with courteous and diplomatic service
  • Loads and unloads goods at the Ministry Centre, destinations, and other storage facilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Janitor

  • Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education Level Attained:

  • Completed High School

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • Valid Saskatchewan Driver’s license Class 5
  • Proof of clean driving record
  • Criminal Police Check

Minimum Prior Related Experience:

  • More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience in driving and janitorial duties

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:

  • The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of sitting for long periods of time, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling. Required to regularly lift in excess of 50 pounds. Operation of some commercial cleaning equipment will also be necessary.

Concentration Required:

  • The performance of the job requires frequent safety awareness, concentration when driving and maneuvering cargo, use of fine motor skills, and moderate attention when reading equipment manuals (for safe operating instructions).
  • The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized equipment and general cleaning.

Responsibility for Financial Resources:

  • The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, collect, or transport small and large amounts of cash.  The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

Responsibility for Human Resources:

  • The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and/or students.

Work Environment:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a program vehicle, warehouses, and throughout the building and external grounds.  The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Garbage
  • Odours
  • Dirty environment (unsanitary conditions)
  • Truck fumes
  • Excessive noise (vehicles & machinery)
  • Extreme temperature changes
  • Washrooms (i.e. Human waste)
  • Toxic Chemicals
  • Confined spaces

Exposure to Hazards:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:

  • Moving objects
  • Sharp objects
  • Driving in hazardous conditions
  • Risk of back injuries
  • Risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Risk of cuts, puncture wounds
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals
  • Electrical hazards (electrical shock)
  • Exposure to bodily fluids
  • Other potentially dangerous situations

Precautionary Measures:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal Precautions
  • Wear gloves
  • Use back braces
  • Use face protection where appropriate
  • Use fume mask where appropriate
  • Use steel toed boots
