Description

The Distribution Centre / Logistics Coordinator provides for the organization and communication of all CRC distribution and logistics related tasks, including with ministry units and donors. In addition, this position will be responsible for organization and related communications for all resource drives held by the CRC (ie Angel Tree, Stahl Peterbilt Toy Drive and any new resource drives undertaken).

DAYS and HOURS of work: Monday to Friday; 40 hours per week

Responsibilities

Distribution Management:
• Oversee and direct, and if necessary directly participate in, the day-to-day operations of the distribution centre. This includes updating inventory, organizing inventory and equipment (including proper storage), assigning pick orders to distribution centre team, and overseeing the shipping and receiving (including packaging).
• Lead, develop, train and supervise drivers and distribution centre staff
• Implement, monitor and maintain a distribution logistics computer software and barcode system
• Manage daily plan to meet or exceed expectations for delivery, productivity and accuracy

Inventory/Donation Management:
• Monitor in-stock position and proactively react to inventory needs to ensure delivery standards are met.
• Develop and maintain inventory/security controls to prevent shortages.
• Ensure donations are picked up on time from donors and partners/suppliers and are properly transported to and from the distribution centre.
• Conduct semi-annual physical inventories and report results

Health & Safety:
• Maintain a clean, safe and effective distribution centre environment
• Ensure that CRC property and equipment (including vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks, etc) are maintained and serviced to meet all applicable Health and Safety standards

Administrative:
• Develop productivity, accuracy and other operational standards and prepare and analyse daily, weekly and monthly operational reports. Use these reports to evaluate department’s performance with respect to the developed standards and plan/adjust operations and staffing needs to ensure standards are met.
• May assist Executive Director in hiring, responsible for orientation
• Participate and attend staff meetings
• Communicate concerns or needs to be addressed with CRC Executive Director in an effective, respectful and timely manner
• Ensure efficient and appropriate staffing and resource use within the approved staffing budget
• Conduct timely and valuable performance reviews for drivers and distribution centre staff and follow-up to ensure acceptable standards are met
• Ensure all Salvation Army policies and practices are communicated to distribution centre staff
• Ensure that Health and Safety requirements are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. This includes, staff health and safety training, performing staff safety observations, recommending and/or correcting substandard acts or conditions, and investigating incidents
• Provide accurate monthly distribution centre stats to Office Coordinator
• Provide biweekly payroll hours for driver and distribution centre staff to Office Coordinator
• Organize and manage toy and food drives for Christmas, back to school supply drives, other drives undertaken by CRC

Qualifications

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• College certification or higher in a related discipline (i.e., logistics and supply chain management, engineering or business) or equivalent experience
• Valid Forklift Operator certification or willing to obtain upon acceptance of position

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
• 3 – 5 years progressive experience inclusive of supervising a distribution centre, delivery operation, or logistics operation

• Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communications skills
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and work direction to motivate others and maintain improved operational performance and associate engagement levels
• High degree of experience with various warehouse, distribution centre and delivery technologies (i.e., pick-to-voice, barcode technologies, GPS, POD, etc)
• Possesses a sense of urgency required in a deadline driven environment and ability to prioritize appropriately
• Effective organizational and time management skills – self-motivated and disciplined self-starter
• Willing to take direction from supervisor and work as contributing member of a team
• Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values
• Willing to wear Salvation Army logo/branded wear

Successful candidate, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

• A valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
• Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
