Description
To oversee the operations of the dietary and environmental services for two of our locations, Belinda’s Place and Sutton Youth Services plus any additional YHSS locations as required. The effective management of financial resources and the development of strong dietary and environmental service team that will deliver optimal care and service, based on legislative requirements while assuring to adhere to the policies and procedures set out by The Salvation Army.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration
- Supports, interprets, and incorporates The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision, and Values into all aspects of nutrition/environmental
- Support the implementation of our dietary services and delivery program through menu planning, food production, dining, and snack
- Ensure all dietary residential needs are
- Supporting our Custodians and laundry services program while ensuring compliance with current policies and procedures and
- Review feedback from residence on service and production to improve services
- Ensures that all staff, under their direction function within their scope of practice and demonstrate knowledge and skill required for the
- Establishes systems to ensure all standards and regulations for dietary and environmental services are implemented and adhered to on an ongoing
- Collection of data for any statistical
- Monthly, weekly reporting requirements
- Contribute to committees and
Human Resources
- Participates in the recruitment and performance management process in accordance YHSS and Core Standards for all employees in the dietary and environmental services.
- Ensure staff practices are in compliance with Policies, Procedures, Operating Principles and all Core Standards.
- Assist with the onboarding of new staff and overseeing recertification
- Scheduling of staff ensuring coverage for sick and vacation days of staff; being on call if
- Working shifts if relief and or full-time staff are not
- Payroll- Biweekly timesheets processing/approval in Workday
- Submission/Approval of biweekly hours to payroll
- Provides direction and corrective intervention with employees in performance ensuring employees are adhering to organizational and departmental policies, procedures, work routines and safety practices.
Financial and Materials Management
- Inventory management for dietary and environmental services team
- Ensures there is effective and efficient procurement and supply control procedures within the dietary and environmental services team
- Working with the Business Manager on costs and budgeting
Quality Management
- Provides leadership and direction to implement all aspects of the Quality Assurance and Risk management program as it pertains to the dietary, and environmental services team.
- Establishes processes and accountability for completion of monthly audits, analysis of results and development of improvement plans as required to address quality care and service
- Makes recommendations for corrective action to reach the mean for clinical
- Working with the team to assist in managing the outbreak procedures including IPAC assessments and any actions plans from Business
Food Donors
- Building relationships with community donors
- Developing a donor plan of action
- Engaging and arranging food donations
- Responsible for food donation management
Occupational Health and Safety
- Observes work patterns and ensure safe working practices are always adhered to
- Ensures that all dietary and environmental staff are properly trained and aware of emergency fire and disaster procedures
- Ensures dietary and Custodians staff perform prestart up inspections on all equipment requiring same
- Conducts safety audits
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience Qualifications
- Preference will be given individual working a similar current role for dietary and Custodians services.
- Current food handlers’ certificate
- Culinary certificate/diploma or equivalent restaurant, institutional cooking experience
Experience and Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum of two-year’s experience supervising staff
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety

Skills and Capabilities
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Office 365
- Able to work in a fast-paced
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must have good interpersonal/time management
- A valid first aid and CPR certificate
- Up to date WMHIS
- Must have a VSS (Vulnerable Sector Screening) that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army
