HOURS: Casual – On Call (24 hour facility)

Responsibilities

• Able to assist cooks in food preparation (cutting vegetables, peeling, portioning, dishing desserts)
• Able to work in a fast paced environment.
• Work in a restaurant style environment.
• Read, understand and follow duty list and cleaning lists.
• Able to organize time for meal service and clean up.
• Takes direction from Food Services Manager and Cooks.
• Understands the importance of making sure the correct meal is served when a formal request has been issued by the Assisted Living Manager.
• Understands Assisted Living concept and Independent Living and the difference between the two.
• Sets up and serves at meal times and snack times
• Keeps beverage area stocked and sanitized
• Keeps coffee pots, carafes and coffee machine clean.
• Does preparation for next day.
• Adheres to all principles and directives of Food Safe in the storage, handling and preparation of food.
• Consistently keeps work areas clean and sanitized
• Ensures that meals are served in a professional and polite manner.
• Accepts deliveries and ensures that orders are correct and properly stored.
• Operates all equipment safely as per procedures.
• Works cooperatively with other kitchen and food service staff to ensure smooth, professional delivery of service.
• Assists with managing leftovers and clean up at the end of shift.
• Informs Food Services Manager or Cook when items are getting low for reordering.
• Notifies Food Services Manager of any concerns with tenants, staff, inventory.
• Responsible for making sure items are taken out of freezer or storage prepared in time for meal service.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
• High school graduate.
• Certificate in food safe level 1
• Criminal records check
• TB test
• WHIMS certificate.
Experience:
• Five years’ experience in food service preferably in the service industry.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
• Able to support the mission statement of Southview Heights and Terrace.
• Attends staff meetings.
• Participates in performance evaluations with supervisor as required.
• To arrive at work in enough time to be on the floor at start of shift.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
• Excellent oral and communication in English.
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to read and implement duties and work routines.
• Good health. Able to lift 15kgs.
• A heart and disposition for working with seniors.
• Ability to demonstrate emotional stability in order to cope with the physical, mental and emotional demands of this position.
