The Day Camp Counsellor is responsible for child minding at a day camp.

This is a temporary full-time position from July 2  to August 16, 2019.

Hours of work are 40 hours per week.


The Day Camp Counsellor is responsible for the following range of duties under the supervision of the Day Camp Program Director:

  • Give oversight and supervision of children
  • Participate and lead aspects of camp program
  • Encourage the healthy participation of each camper in the program
  • Maintain, adhere and administer camp rules/policies of the camp program at all times
  • May assist with planning and participating in community-drop in events
  • Assists with leadership training opportunities for youth volunteers as required
  • To ensure the cleanliness of the program facilities
  • May assist with advertising of the program and recruitment of campers as well as registration of same
  • Interact broadly with Southlands congregational members, community partners, neighborhood families and Church staff
  • Willing to offer spiritual support with campers, parents, other staff members, and is passionate about sharing the Gospel with all involved in the program



  • High School age and in secondary studies
  • Must be able to join children in a variety of activities and maintain a high energy level throughout the program days
  • Able to work with, lead and organize youth volunteers
  • Clear Police Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Able to legally work in Canada
  • Certificate in First Aid/CPR or willingness to receive training
  • Supportive knowledge of the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and organizational skills

The performance of this position requires the ability to join children and youth in a variety of activities and maintain a high energy level throughout the program days.


The performance of this position requires maintaining focus with the children and youth throughout the program on a daily basis.


The incumbent may have responsibility for handling cash under the direction of the Day Camp supervisor.


The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and will give oversight to youth volunteers.


The incumbent’s work environment may be in a variety of locations. It will include indoor and outdoor settings according to program planning and at least one off site day trip a week.
