HOURS:

The SA Dental Coordinator position is offered as a two-year position, based on 8 hours per week; 32 hours per month.  These hours must be flexible to accommodate when dentists and volunteers are available. 

Responsibilities

Position Purpose Summary:

The Salvation Army Mouthminders Dental Clinic is a not-for-profit dental clinic.  The Coordinator of The Salvation Army dental clinic is an integral part of the running of the clinic, working closely with the Community Services Coordinator, dentists, and other dental volunteers.  The primary focus of this position is working collaboratively to maintain a safe and inclusive environment that addresses the emergency dental care of our clients.

 

BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform reception and clerical duties
  • Perform intra-oral duties
  • Screen and prepare patients for dental examinations
  • Organize clinical sessions and scheduling of dental clients
  • Maintenance of dental supplies and equipment as necessary
  • Responsible for the ordering of dental supplies and equipment, for the operation of the dental clinic
  • Assist with dentists and other volunteers to provide emergency dental treatment to clients when necessary
  • Assist dentist in recording and maintenance of dental records and charting
  • Responsible for the maintenance and preparation of the dental operatory for efficiency and quality of care, for assigned clinical days
  • Ensure proper infection control procedures and guidelines are followed, including sterilization monitoring
  • Attend meetings and actively participate in discussions and decisions regarding The Salvation Army dental clinic
  • Report malfunctioning equipment and safety hazards to CMC
  • Assist with the orientation of new volunteers as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • Certification as a dental assistant or licensure as a dental hygienist or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • Experience in the dental field

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Skills or certification in infection control and proper sterilization techniques
  • Ability to prepare, organize and manage paper and electronic correspondence and information with confidentiality
  • Skills to maintain and order dental supplies, records, equipment, and dental operatory
  • Ability to perform detailed work according to established format and protocols

 

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
