Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

The Cook prepares and serves a nutritious meal in accordance with applicable food service and safety regulations.

: The Cook is responsible for the following range of characteristic job duties:

  • Prepares meals; may prepare for special dietary needs.
  • Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.
  • Makes use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
  • Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to adherence.
  • May be authorized to supervise students or volunteers in compliance with the Salvation Army purpose.
  • Ensure clean-up of kitchen and dining area.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

·         High School diploma or equivalency

·         Prior related cooking experience

·         Food Handlers Certificate, Standard First Aid, & WHMIS training

   

POSITION REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

·         The performance of the job requires frequent attention to the preparation of food, reading recipes, adhering to safety procedure and regulations occasionally ordering supplies..

·         Lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required.

·         Responsible for providing direction and checking results of students or volunteers.

·         Working with others in a small kitchen setting.

·         Typically a kitchen in a ministry unit.

EMPLOYMENT TERM:

·         Casual: 9 hours per week.

·         Hours: Fluctuating schedule-flexibility will be required

·         Start date September 20, 2019
