HOURS:

  • Full Time Hours, 16 week contract.

Responsibilities

Position Purpose Summary:

The Community Worker – Children and Family Focus – will seek to provide outreach, discipleship, support and fun to children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, promote, and implement day camp activities – both in person and through online/print media.
  • Lead fun activities as part of a team that maintains COVID-19 safety and hygiene requirements at all times.
  • Develop and maintain connections with the BC Salvation Army Youth Department and local community organizations that work with children and families.
  • Reach out to families who may feel isolated by telephone, email, and by appropriate social-distancing visitation to share connection and support.
  • Develop relationships with Alberni Elementary schools with a view towards partnerships and after-school programming in the fall.
  • Work closely with Corps Officers, YPSM (Young People’s Sergeant Major), Community Intake Workers, and other team members, in supporting community during COVID-19 relief efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to packing and delivering food to those in need.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Driver’s license
  • Strong communication skills, including telephone, written, in person, and online.
  • At least one year experience working with children 5-12, camp or day camp experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to demonstrating Salvation Army doctrines and policies at work.
  • Comfortable working in a faith-based environment and discussing faith with children and families.
  • Demonstration of kindness and welcome to all people, regardless of lifestyle or background.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Basic knowledge of computers

Preferred Skills/Knowledge:

  • Personal experience with The Salvation Army

 

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
