HOURS:

  • Full Time Hours, 16 week contract.

Responsibilities

Position Purpose Summary:

The Community Worker will assist others within a framework of COVID-19 relief work and the Salvation Army Community Ministries team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with team members to develop and maintain supports for people in recovery, in transition, or marginalized, with a focus on men and their families.
  • Reach out to those who may feel isolated by telephone or in person to share connection and support.
  • Helping people access resources and supports to achieve their goals.
  • Sharing in COVID-relief work in Alberni Valley, particularly food relief with homeless and those in isolation.
  • Potential for street outreach.
  • Delivering food to people’s homes
  • Filling hampers
  • Feeding people
  • Serving people
  • Developing and maintaining connections with other agencies offering support to men and their families.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Driver’s license
  • Strong communication skills, including telephone, written, in person, and online.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Commitment to demonstrating Salvation Army doctrines and policies at work.
  • Comfortable working in a faith-based environment and discussing faith with children and families.
  • Demonstration of kindness and welcome to all people, regardless of lifestyle or background.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Basic knowledge of computers

Preferred Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experience working with or attending The Salvation Army.
  • Experience with or good working knowledge of 12-Step or other recovery-support programs.
  • Training or work experience in Addiction/Recovery support.
  • Experience working with homeless or marginalized people groups.

 

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
