Responsibilities
- Consistently demonstrate empathy and concern for clients/families.
- Provide emergency food hampers to clients as directed by supervisor.
- May assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records, as directed.
- Assists in the organization, maintenance, and general cleanliness of the Food Bank and/or Meal Centre, etc. while precisely following COVID-19 BC regulations.
- Receive (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard procedures.
- May be responsible for ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Arrange for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy.
- May direct work of volunteers assisting in the Food Bank as per the supervisor’s instructions.
- Works with Supervisor to plan programs and other administration duties as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
NOTE:
- There are two temporary, part-time positions.
- Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but may perform a similar range of duties.
Qualifications
*NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.
Education/Certifications:
- WHMIS training
- Class 5 drivers’ license
- Food Safe 1 or more
Experience:
- Up to three (3) months of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barriered persons.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program.
- Successful obtainment of Enhanced Reliability Status Security Clearance.
Individual, who is committed to the mission of the Salvation Army and is willing and able to work within the Salvation Army doctrine and theology.
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities:
- Demonstrated ability to compassionately apply policy and procedures in stressful situations.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention, or the willingness to be trained an asset.
HOURS:
- Position (1)- 15 hours per week - Monday 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. (5 hrs), Saturdays 11.00 a.m.-2.00 p.m. (3hrs) Fridays 9am – 12.00 p.m. for administration duties (3 hrs) – additional 4 hours may vary.
- Position (2) - 5 hours per week – Saturdays 3.30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Temporary work period: January 15, 2021 to March 1, 2021.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean driver abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
