  • Casual – On Call as Required



  • Volunteer supervision (may include recruitment and selection, orientation, training, evaluation, discipline), direction and scheduling using Volunteer HUB system
  • Conduct initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client
  • Provide emergency assistance services (i.e. housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy
  • Maintain confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records through data entry into CMS system
  • Assist in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank
  • Receive or declines and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Volunteer supervision (may include recruitment and selection, orientation, training, evaluation, discipline), direction and scheduling using Volunteer HUB system
  • Create, develop and maintain the menu, ordering food and supplies
  • Monitor food preparation to ensure all food and products are consistently prepared and served, according to recipes, portioning, cooking, serving, and food safe standards
  • Decide appropriate, creative and efficient use of food, including donations in order to minimize wastage
  • Adapt work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Monitor preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as required
  • Responsible for ordering and monitoring of food and kitchen supplies and establish guidelines for the security of food supplies and all cooking equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Must have completed High School, plus ideally, specialized courses relevant to this type of work of a minimum of six (6) months
  • Minimum one year of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barrier persons
  • Food Safe Training
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training preferred – capable of intervening in physical confrontations and maintaining a safe environment for staff, volunteers and clients
  • Strong computer skills, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills

PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities:

  • Physically able to assisting in loading/unloading donations from the truck/van and lifting/moving equipment more than 20 pounds
  • Attentive listening (supervision, counselling, conflict resolution, etc.), compassion, good communication skills and a desire to work with people
  • Desire to reflect the mission, values and standards of The Salvation Army at all times.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Completion of required Health and Safety training
