The Community Ministries Worker B assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army. Able to provide assistance in either the food bank or soup kitchen on an as-needed basis as well as provide relief for those ministry area supervisors.


• Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
• Volunteer supervision and scheduling using Volunteer HUB system
• May participate in the hiring, orientation, training, development and evaluation of volunteers; ensures volunteer safety in compliance with the Health & Safety Standards, monitors and analyzes incident reports
• Conducts initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client
• Provides emergency assistance services (i.e. housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy
• Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records through data entry into CMS system
• Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank
• Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations
• May direct volunteers, which include recruitment, selection, orientation, training, evaluation and discipline
• Provides input into the operational budget; may be responsible for cash management
• May organize or execute seasonal or special programs (i.e. Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Food Drives, Community Dinners, etc.)
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Volunteer supervision and scheduling using Volunteer HUB system
• Creates, develops and maintains the menu, giving oversight to the ordering of food and supplies
• Monitors food preparation to ensure all food and products are consistently prepared and served, according to recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards
• To decide on the appropriate, creative and efficient use of food, including donations so as to minimize wastage
• Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
• Monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as required
• Takes responsibility for the ordering and monitoring of food and kitchen supplies and establishes guidelines for the security of food supplies and all cooking equipment
• Performs other duties as assigned


• Must have completed High School, plus ideally, specialized courses relevant to this type of work of a minimum of six (6) months
• Minimum one year of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barrier persons
• Current Certification in First Aid/CPR preferred
• Non-violent crisis intervention training preferred – capable of intervening in physical confrontations and maintaining a safe environment for staff, volunteers and clients
• Food Safe Training preferred
• Strong computer skills, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills
• Physically able to assisting in loading/unloading donations from the truck/van and lifting/moving equipment more than 20 pounds
• Attentive listening (supervision, counselling, conflict resolution, etc.), compassion, good communication skills and a desire to work with people
• Desire to reflect the mission, values and standards of The Salvation Army at all times
