HOURS: 40 hours per week

Position Purpose Summary:

The Community Ministries Supervisor position provides front line leadership under the direction of the Corps Officer for the social and spiritual work of The Salvation Army in Vanderhoof.

Responsibilities

  • Serves actively as a member of the operational team for the overall Community Ministries Centre
  • Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
  • Gives oversight to family services and the food bank, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives
  • Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients, staff and volunteers, endeavouring to assimilate them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking clients to the church family and church programs where possible)
  • May provide intake services, client assessment, emergency assistance, short-term spiritual guidance, ongoing case management and/or other forms of direct service for clients applicable to the program
  • May provide direction, support and team leadership to program staff (where applicable) so that they may develop spiritually and to ensure that they work together to achieve the purposes of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army
  • Develops strategies and recommendations for program staff (where applicable) and volunteer development; assists with recruitment, orientation, performance management and terminations
  • Provides input to ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects client needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate and reflects continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Prepares and submits reports and program evaluations as requested by internal or external sources; may assist with the development of program proposals; maintains confidentiality of all client and staff records and statistical data
  • Provides input to operating budget for the specific community ministries program, and works within budgeted guidelines; may be responsible for cash management for the program
  • Provides input to the development of policies and procedures specific to the Community Ministries program
  • Works with the CMD/CO to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements
  • Networks with The Salvation Army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and programs
  • May assist with coordination/organization of donation and fund-raising efforts and/or special or seasonal programs (Red Shield Appeal, Christmas Kettle Campaign, Food Drives, Donation Drives, Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Community Dinners, etc.)
  • May provide visibility for the specific community ministries program within the community through service club participation, media relations, general public relations, etc. and ensure effective marketing of the program
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree (e.g., B.A., B.Sc. B.Sc.N.)

Experience:

  • One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including, experience in a specialized social services program.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to lift more than 20 pounds
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate proficiently both orally and in writing.
