Description

The Communications Specialist supports the Public Relations team by developing and designing requested communication materials. The Specialist also creates content across all platforms, monitors social media/websites, and provides support as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Writing & Communications

  • Conducts story research and interviews, writes web stories, and obtains supporting photos
  • Writes copy for on and offline collateral
  • Makes recommendations based on correct brand identity and marketing needs for collateral requests and proposals
  • Assists in the development of communication materials as directed
  • Acts as photographer/videographer at Divisional events and activities as needed
  • Participates as directed and as needed at all PRD events

Design & Creativity

  • Provides creative and graphic design expertise and support to online and offline communications initiatives and events
  • Creates innovative and high-quality design, artwork, and layout for on and offline communications materials such as brochures, newsletters, presentations, posters, signage, web graphics, web pages, print ads, etc.
  • Ensures that all communications materials and promotional items adhere to Salvation Army branding and imaging standards
  • Maintains the photo and video library
  • Research into new technology, software, etc. as needed

 Website/Social Media

  • Monitors and analyzes website traffic and analytics
  • Monitors social media of all Divisional Units and reports potential issues or ways to help
  • Identifies and reports appropriate content to be shared Divisionally
  • Provides detailed statistical reports and website analytics quarterly for marketing purposes
  • Evaluates new social media platforms and provides recommendations
  • Takes photos/video and captures content for social media posts at events and activities

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or related field

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years related experience
  • Knowledge of Salvation Army policies, procedures, culture, and programs is an asset

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suites – Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign are a must
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
  • Exceptional written communications skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Strong team player who can also work independently
  • Creative problem solver, idea generator, and multi-tasker
  • High standard of integrity, judgment, and confidentiality
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs

Valid driver’s license and abstract, and access to a personal vehicle for business purposes Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent
  • A valid criminal record check or vulnerable sector screening
  • Valid drivers abstract
  • Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training

DAYS and HOURS of work: Monday to Friday, generally 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM with 1 hour unpaid lunch.
