This is a temporary, position with no guaranteed hours.  Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Normal hours of operation are Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable.  (schedule set by your supervisor).

  • Support the Share the Warmth Coat Program and Toy Distribution Program – set up, organize, take down,
  • Ensure that signage is posted before opening to receive clients, based on Covid Protocol.
  • To assist with scheduling and organizing volunteers with the Program Coordinator.
  • Oversee the inventory for Toy Program.
  • May receive non-monetary donations, required to document donor name and address following standard procedures; forward monetary donation upon receipt to supervisor.
  • Receive and process donations of toys for distribution; provide direction for sorting toy donations
  • Recording of statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner
  • Ensure stocking racks and tables with toys
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Exercise safe and careful material handling procedures.
  • Responsible to ensure the work area is clean and tidy upon completion of the program.
  • Give assistance to clients who are seeking toys
  • Process telephone calls from clients requiring assistance for the program
  • Perform other position related duties as required.

  • Completed Secondary School
  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community based programs would be a definite asset
  • Ability to work with little supervision but also able to accept direction when necessary
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy work environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Good organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs/10 kilos
  • Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced office setting
  • Experience with general office equipment and Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle, insurance and a current driver’s abstract (original copy)that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
  • Self-motivation and discipline
  • Experience/Working knowledge in word processing, spread sheet use, general office equipment and Microsoft Office applications
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for an understanding of the mission and the purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada
