Description

In a cooperative team-based environment, the employee will register individuals and families accessing the services of the Christmas Assistance Program.

This is a temporary full-time position from November 1 - December 24, 2019.  Hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm with a one hour unpaid lunch.

There are 3 positions available.

Responsibilities

  • Work in cooperation with the Community Ministries Coordinator, Room Coordinator and other front-line staff in organizing and screening of all Christmas Assistance Applications
  • Provide front line support to clients seeking Christmas Assistance
  • Verify Clients qualifications and personal information necessary for eligibility
  • Data entry in program specific software
  • Provide support with distribution of Christmas hampers and toys
  • Assist with Christmas related duties with Community Ministries
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Education Level Attained:

  • Completed High School, with experience in Social Services delivery an asset.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to work in compliance with the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army
  • Enthusiastic team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate in the English language; both written and verbal
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, able to meet deadlines and cope with stressful situations
  • Possess strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Possess strong computer skills; ability to work with Microsoft Office programs is a must
  • Clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:

  • Computer work
  • Intervening in physical confrontations

Concentration Required:

  • Attentive listening (intake/guidance to clients)
  • Computer work 

Responsibility for Human Resources:

  • Responsible for his/her own time and effort only 

Work Environment:

  • Work related stress
  • Dealing with angry and abusive people
  • Little to no travel required 

Exposure to Hazards:

  • Physical and verbal attack by other e.g. Disgruntled clients acting out physically or verbally
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
