This is a permanent, full-time position based on 30 hours per week.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Normal hours of operation are; Monday to Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Normal location of work is at Grace Haven 138 Herkimer Street Hamilton, ON L8P 2H1.

  • Provide supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of the children during the second hour program.
  • Recognize and respond to the needs of each child.
  • Assist in orientating of new children and families to the program as necessary .
  • Observe and monitor children’s play activities.
  • Keep records on individual children, family, etc. is strictly  confidence; and that activity records and statistics are stored in a secure location.
  • Role models appropriate behaviours and attitudes for the child and family.
  • Share and participate in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, age-appropriate activities that encourage children’s creativity and learning; promote each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
  • Communicate effectively with the children and their families.
  • Ensure effective risk management; health, and safety of the playroom environment, monitoring food safety, medication storage/disbursement, allergies, and facility cleanliness/maintenance; provides emergency first aid and completes reports and file incident reports as required.
  • Share responsibility for maintaining program equipment in god repair; assist with toy/equipment disinfecting, maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition.
  • Serve snack and refreshments to children.
  • Perform other position related duties as required.


  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent as determined by the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario.
  • Registered member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working with infants in a childcare environment.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of the needs of adolescent mothers (13 to 21 years).
  • Knowledge of the licensed/unlicensed child care sector and community resources.
  • Skills pertinent to developing and facilitating infant/toddler and teen parenting programs.
  • Excellent working experience in Microsoft Office, i.e. WORD, EXCEL and emails.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certification. NVCI Certification as well.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Attentive listening (to the children etc) record keeping, and preparing materials, crafts, snacks, etc.
  • Non-judgmental maintaining appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to lift/move more than 20lbs.
