This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours.  Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Corps building is set up and ready for all rental groups, open upon their arrival and secure upon their departure.
  • Responsible for any combination of light cleaning duties during and after the departure of a rental group.
  • Ensure kitchen cleanliness before, during and after the departure of a rental group.
  • Ensure the upkeep of the facility i.e. empty all garbage receptacles, put garbage out for designated garbage day, vacuum all carpeted areas, sweep all tiled areas, wash floors and baseboards in tiled areas, clean all glass areas; windows and ledges etc. using a ladder where/when needed, dust all offices and furnishings.
  • Clean and polish sinks, toilets and counter tops, mirrors and fixtures.
  • Clean washrooms (toilets, sinks, floors), restock washrooms supplies and distribute received material as required.
  • Wipe down all tables, chairs and door handles
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required.
  • Identify/report to supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider.
  • Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
  • Report needed cleaning items to supervisor, for order/purchase as required.
  • Perform a minor repair such as change light bulbs and report safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor
  • Report to supervisor a need for floors to be stripped and waxed and/or carpets shampooed.
  • Maintain the security of property at all times.
  • Ensure the general upkeep of external property such as keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting and litter pick up.
  • Other duties as requested by the supervisor.
  • Operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
  • Lift/move up to 30 pounds.
  • Moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.
  • May be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash.

Qualifications

  • The successful job applicant will have completed High School.
  • A minimum of three (3) months prior related experience, including general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Must have valid WHMIS.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
