Description

HOURS: 

  • Full time - 37.5 hour per week

Responsibilities

Accountabilities:

  • Communications

Website

  • Lead all efforts related to the development and upkeep of the Cariboo Hill Temple website.
  • Proactively work to ensure Cariboo Hill maintains an effective presence on the web including style/presence, search engines, new technology.
  • Create an automated building rental request form on website. Monitor and respond to rental requests as needed.

Promotions

  • Lead efforts to create all promo material related to church activities both internally and in the community.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and contracted workers to produce graphic design, video promo, and other communications as necessary.

Connectivity

  • Creation and execution of a process for welcoming and following up with visitors.
  • Ensuring clear communication in the physical building for newcomers (i.e. signage, promo materials, welcoming process.)
  • Awareness of the Burnaby/Tri-Cities community communication channels and makes every effort to include and promote Cariboo Hill in them (i.e. local news, community bulletins, recreation centers, church/social work/volunteer networks.)

Administrative Oversight:

  • Give oversight to admin volunteers assisting with basic admin duties
  • Maintenance of membership databases & church calendar
  • Maintenance of property & vehicle records

Pastoral Ministry

  • Demonstrates “ministry instincts” and gifts that enable them to understand how to craft systems to meet ministry goals contributing to the spiritual development of individuals. These may include mentoring and discipleship as well as functions related to the execution of the Sunday gathering event.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating programs/ministries relevant to the church body and the community at large; evangelistic outreach, pastoral care programs (including on-going visitation), and Bible studies as applicable.
  • Assists in the planning of assimilation strategies and events as required to promote incorporation into the church fellowship
  • This position has a key role on Sundays because the church service is our big communications event. The Sunday gathering is an important aspect of this position on a weekly basis.  They will need to be at the church service to execute any content they or their teams have produced: they may need to verbally communicate during the service itself at times, be available to meet face to face with people who are coming to the service and help connect them with ministries.  They are accountable for taking stock of who is in attendance and who is missing for statistical and pastoral purposes: and they are responsible for recruiting and leading volunteer teams (and the primary place they would find those relationships is the Sunday morning service).

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal:

  • Church members, volunteers and Ministry Leaders
  • Coordinate with DHQ

External:

  • Community Outreach

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position reports directly to the Corps Officer leading the Ministry Unit
  • Coordinates the work of volunteer staff

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • May occasionally have minor financial responsibility for bank deposits and counts

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office/local facilities/ministry unit settings
  • Must be able to work on Sundays
  • Flexible schedule opportunities

Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications
  • Appropriate Theological diploma or training strongly preferred

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • 2 years experience with at least one year experience in a spiritual development role, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Understands and adheres to the mission of The Salvation Army Church with a biblical approach to leadership.
  • Excellence in time and resource management.
  • Works closely with pastors and leadership team to ensure unity in vision messaging.
  • Awareness of Salvation Army public relations protocol and ability to work within these guidelines on behalf of Cariboo Hill Temple.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated experience managing a diverse array of communication projects from start to finish.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Confident public presence and a strong communicator in both written and verbal forms
  • Strong networking and interpersonal connecting skills
  • Media and internet savvy with good graphic design sense
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively
